A compact bright red-flowered clematis. Position: full sun Soil: moist but well-drained soil Rate of growth: average Flowering period: May to September Hardiness: fully hardy Issey Evipo081(N) is a new clematis with a compact habit, bred by specialist clematis growers Evison/Poulsen. Flowering from late spring to early summer and again in late summer to early autumn, it has intensely coloured, bright red blooms with a yellow centre and flowers prolifically from old and new wood. The late summer and early autumn flowers are smaller in size but are produced very freely giving a mass of flowers. Ideal for growing in a pot or container in the garden or scrambling over a host plant in borders. Garden care: Plant in conditioned growing media (either with well-rotted compost or an appropriate multi-purpose compost blended for mature plants) with a sprinkling of mycorrhizal fungi (Rootgrow) in the planting hole. This clematis is perfect for novice gardeners as it responds well to pruning. It flowers on new and old wood so prune each winter to about 8 inches (20cm). Apply a slow-release balanced fertiliser and a mulch of well-rotted garden compost around the plant, avoiding the immediate crown.
