This compact hardy perennial is a much loved cottage garden variety that is perfect for smaller growing spaces, the front of borders and pots. Aquilegia ‘Earlybird Purple Blue’ boasts an abundance of pretty bicoloured flowers in lilac-blue and purple which appear upon short stems, above a tidy mound of eye-catching lobed foliage. The graceful looking blooms make a wonderful cut flower where you can really appreciate their charm up close. This dwarf columbine will be happiest in a semi-shaded spot with moist but well-drained soil. Height and spread: 20-30cm (8-12in).
