Ammi Majus (Approx 500 Seeds)£2.79

Ammi Majus, also known as Queen Anne's Lace, is a hardy annual prized for its delicate, frothy white flower heads that resemble fine lacework. These airy blooms add an ethereal and romantic touch to bouquets and garden arrangements. Beyond their aesthetic appeal, Ammi Majus flowers are a magnet for beneficial insects, including butterflies and hoverflies, contributing to a healthy garden ecosystem. Finches are also attracted to the autumn seed heads, providing late-season interest.

This versatile plant thrives in full sun or partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained soil. Its average growth rate makes it manageable for gardeners of all levels. The flowering period extends from June to September, offering a prolonged display of blooms. Ammi Majus has an architectural feel, and staking with twiggy hazel stems is recommended as the plants shoot upwards to provide support.

For optimal growth, fill trays with good quality compost and lightly cover the seeds. Water gently and place in a cold frame or greenhouse. Once the seedlings have developed their first true leaves, pot them on and harden them off before transplanting them outdoors after the last frosts. Alternatively, sow seeds directly into the garden in late spring or early summer, thinning them out to 20-30cm apart as they grow. With its beauty and ecological benefits, Ammi Majus is a delightful addition to any garden.
